Jonathan Margolies has been engaged in practice for over 30 years with primary emphasis on a broad spectrum of commercial law and financial services including banking law and enforcement of creditor rights, secured transactions, debtor-creditor relations, corporate bankruptcies and workouts, commercial transactions and documentation, corporate formations, acquisitions, business litigation, and appellate practice. He regularly represents an array of institutional lenders, middle-market businesses, and start-up companies. His litigation practice encompasses both state and federal courts as well as bankruptcy courts throughout the country.

Mr. Margolies' business practice includes the representation of corporate clients on a wide array of commercial issues including preparation and review of contracts, stock and asset sale transactions, purchase and sale of real estate, leasing issues, corporate governance, shareholder and equity member agreements, commercial litigation, employment matters, and financing. He also provides legal counsel to entrepreneurs and start-up companies on entity formation and governance, equity structure and ownership relationships, and financing issues as well as the various commercial matters facing such clients at the outset of their business ventures.

In the corporate bankruptcy arena, Mr. Margolies' practice encompasses the full gamut of business issues including debtor-in-possession financing, cash collateral, stay relief and valuation litigation, prosecution and defense of preferences and other avoidance actions, asset sales, lien perfection and priority disputes, claim disputes, and plan confirmation, and all other aspects of bankruptcy litigation. His representation extends to a wide range of parties including secured and unsecured creditors, debtors, creditors' committees, trustees, and governmental agencies. Over the last three decades, he has participated in many of the largest corporate bankruptcies in the Kansas City metropolitan area as well as reorganization cases on a national scale in such varied industries as hospitality, commercial real estate, agribusiness, financial and retail enterprises, theater groups, energy production and delivery, and large-scale utility operations. In his role as the lead counsel for corporate debtors, Mr. Margolies has successfully reorganized several area companies in such diverse arenas as trucking, health clubs, retirement home and apparel.

Mr. Margolies' financial services practice has involved representation of many leading banks in the Kansas City area as well as national and international lenders. Lenders consult with him on a broad spectrum of financial issues including loan documentation, participation and subordination agreements, perfection of collateral, Uniform Commercial Code issues, lien priority disputes, negotiation of workouts, forbearance agreements, debt restructuring and refinancing, enforcement of lender rights and remedies, mediation and commercial litigation. Mr. Margolies' substantial knowledge and experience in debtor-creditor law facilitates the rapid formulation and implementation of legal strategies including, but not limited to, prosecution of litigation that provides maximum results for his clientele.
